Nude Food at St Joe’s

As a 3 Star ResourceSmart school, reducing waste is a daily focus for us at school, home and in the community.  Nude Food is an important part of how we help to reduce plastic waste at school and to educate our students about how their actions can impact the environment and their health. We encourage students to bring a rubbish free lunch to school. Nude food is food that comes to school without disposable packaging – extra plastic bags, paper bags, wrappings, or cling wraps. It’s been fantastic to see that many students have continued to bring Nude Food this year.  Our LGC ResourceSmart Leadership team will be organising some Nude Food activities later in Term 1 to encourage families to provide totally Nude Food lunch boxes everyday. Our famous wax wraps made last year by our students will also be available again at the Twilight Fair in April.

LGA Will Watch How Seeds Grow In Their X-Ray Pots

Grade 1 and 2 students planted Broad Bean seeds and Snow Pea seeds in X-Ray pots so they will be able to watch how seeds germinate under the soil and grow into seedlings.
They planted extra seeds for each of the Foundation students so they can watch their seeds germinate too.  We hope to sell the seedlings we grow at the Twilight Fair.

I Spy in the Veggie Garden

Junior and Middle year students, had fun playing I Spy in the garden on our first day back, to see what veggies and fruit had grown in the gardens over the holidays.
Billy spied a plant with huge leaves, Jax and Olivia spied little orange pumpkins and Austin found the sunflower seed he planted had grown a sunflower taller than him!  Blake was excited to see that we have grown some little orange pumpkins. Emma-Jo spied the corn cobs that are growing and Zara was excited to see how many sunflowers have grown on her plant. Dylan found a little green tomato.
It was so good to see what a success our drip watering system was over the dry hot summer holidays.
