Boomerang Bags Launch at Coleraine IGA Supermarket

29/6/2018

It has been a fantastic team effort to complete our no-sew T-Shirt Boomerang Bags prior to the launch at the Coleraine IGA supermarket. We made 45 bags, in a very short time.
Today our school leaders, joined with the Lions Club of Coleraine, IGA Supermarket and Coleraine Primary School to launch the reuseable ‘Boomerang Bag’ project, in light of the supermarkets no longer using plastic bags. Our senior students have cut and sewn over 45 bags as part of our Social Action and ResourceSmart projects.
We will continue to make Boomerang Bags and deliver them to the supermarket.

Remember that anyone can make reusable bags and be part of this sustainable movement.

Boomerang Bags

The local Coleraine Lions Club have started the ‘Boomerang Bag’ initiative for our town.
The idea is that when we become a plastic bag free town at the end of June, people won’t be stuck without bags. Our senior students have begun making bags from recycled t-shirts to give to the project, which will be based in our local supermarket. Students have also made posters to inform the public about the initiative as well as making bags to get the project underway.

We love that this is a community driven project and it is a pleasure to be part of it.

Preparing for "Plastic Free July"

Our senior class, are looking at ways their families can join the PLASTIC FREE JULY campaign. Next week we will be sending home an Action sheet so you can choose what your family can do to become Plastic Free during July, (which includes the two weeks of the holidays).
Here are some simple things your family can do to use less plastic in July:
● Refuse plastic straws in your drinks
● Refuse take-away coffee cups and bring your own “keep cup”
● Buy loose fruit and vegetables not those packaged in plastic
● Bring “nude food” to school in Term 3
● Take your shopping bags to the shops and refuse single use plastic bags
● Refuse bottled water, fill your own bottle from the tap/tank
● Reduce the amount of bottled drinks you buy, make you own - its healthier!
