Our Romanesco Broccoli was so big that there was enough broccoli for everyone to take approximately 400 grams home.
The mammoth Romanesco Broccoli was harvested by LGB, last Wednesday. Last Friday, everyone had a go at estimating how much it weighed. Gus had the closest estimation at 14kg, as he compared it to lifting his bike which he thinks weighs about 14kg. We had to weigh it on bathroom scales and it weighed in at a whopping 13kg.

I planted the Romanesco Broccoli seedling thinking it was going to be a failure
but it looks like I am wrong! Bree As we were walking in to get our recess we had a look at the school’s Romanesco Broccoli and it look’s amazing! It is a giant fractal which has the same pattern no matter how far you zoom in and out.The Romanesco Broccoli is huge. Gus A Romanesco Broccoli might not be much but it is an amazing example of natural fractals. Fractals are tiny little symmetrical patterns that are repeated to make a something like the Romanesco broccoli or, eyes. Look for yourself and be ready to be amazed. Hunter F Give a big hand to the kind gentleman who single-handedly came to St Joseph’s Community Orchard and pruned all the fruit trees and bushes. He even put them in piles so it would be easier for us to clean up the orchard and paddock. Thanks very much. Jakeb
I did the weeding and gave the weeds to the sheep. They loved it! I gave the sheep, grass and more grass. When we finished it looked great. Bree Two weekends ago, a kind St Joseph’s parishioner came down to our community orchard to prune our fruit trees and bushes. So, last Friday LGB went down to clean the prunings up. My job was helping Hunter P pack the prunings into Ms Cooney’s ute and tying it down. It took us a bit to do but in the end I think we did a great job. Hunter F A Parishioner was so nice that he pruned the trees in the community gardens. So, last Friday, we cleaned the trimmings up and put them in Ms Cooney’s ute so no one would trip over them in the community gardens. Bec James and I worked hard to pull out all the weeds in the community garden. Marcus Last Friday the LGB class went down to the orchard to clean up all of prunings from a very kind man who had pruned all of the orchard with his bare hands. While we were down there we also did a lot of weeding and cleaning up around the garden area. We also gave the sheep one HUMONGOUS feed. Gus If you have enjoyed the fruit and berries, please help us to maintain the Community Orchard by weeding, watering, fertilising, pruning, and harvesting when you have some time. Thankyou. Daniel On Wednesday, with Sacred Heart students, we visited Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) to learn all about Gunditjmara culture and country. We learnt about the unique circular stone dwellings, and saw remnants of Australia's earliest, largest, sustainable stone aquaculture systems, including the fish and eel traps. Here’s what LGA students thought about the day. On the excursion to the Budj Bim area, we saw eel traps. They didn't want to trap the little eels, so there were little holes in the trap. Mitchell and Thomas We had a great time yesterday, but we missed Charlotte. Dylan The red group saw the stone houses, they were fantastic. Eli and Pheobe The blue group went to the stones huts and it smelled like a dead animal in the area. Maybe it was a dead kangaroo! Jimmy and Xander We saw the Rainbow Serpent eggs and they were made by the Budj Bim volcano erupting. Ollie The yellow group went to see the eel (kooyang) traps but we couldn't see them because they were under the fast, flowing water. Connor and Marianna |
